Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • using the GP online system: SystmOnline
  • fill out a repeat prescriptions request form
  • requesting a repeat prescription through your local pharmacy order and collect service
  • in person or by post

We do not take prescription requests over the phone for safety reasons.

Please leave your request for a repeat prescription at reception or post it to the surgery. Tick the items you need on the right-hand section of your previous prescription form. Your prescription will be ready for collection 2 working days later.

If you prefer, we can post it back to you (you will need to provide a stamped, addressed envelope) or register for our web based repeat prescription ordering services.

We are keen to ensure that patients with ongoing medical problems are monitored regularly. When you are due for a medication review, your prescription will be stamped asking you to make an appointment before you need any further prescriptions.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • fill out a nominate a pharmacy form
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Medicines order line (MOL)

Prescriptions can also be ordered through the Medicine Order Line (MOL):

The Medicine Order Line service is open from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

The Medicine Order Line offers an online ordering form for you to order your medication on if you do not wish to wait in the phone queue. This new online ordering form has many benefits:

  • available for use 24/7
  • you don’t need to create an account

There is a central team called the NHS prescription Medicines Order Line (MOL) and you can order your repeat prescription through a quick and simple phone call to 01246 588860, 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

To save you waiting in a phone queue MOLS have introduced a call back system where patients can email a request for a call back from a MOL operative.

Patients can find information on how to email a request for a call back by visiting their website at www.derbyandderbyshireccg.nhs.uk.

In the email itself please follow this procedure and state:

  • The name of their GP practice
  • Their name
  • Their date of birth
  • Their contact telephone number
  • Press send

Please note that no responses will be provided via email as the purpose of email is to request a call back only. They expect to be able to call patients back within 48 hours (excluding Saturdays and Sundays) but that may vary according to the volume of enquiries they are processing. They will attempt to call patients back three times only.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Find a pharmacy

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff.
